About UPH

Q: What is Universal Preservation Hall?
A: Universal Preservation Hall “UPH” is an historic performing arts and community events venue, located in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs, NY. UPH offers year-round music, education and entertainment.

Q: What is the UPH “campus”?
A: The Universal Preservation Hall building has three floors.

  • The first floor:
    Box Office
    Administrative offices
Community Room – will most often serve as the primary lobby with food and bar service, but will also be used for meetings, small performances and rentals.
Capital Region Eddies Music Hall of Fame
    Chapel
    Restrooms
  • The second floor:
Great Hall – our primary performance space will mostly be used as a theatre-in-the-round or thrust stage setup.
  • The third floor:
    Balcony of the Great Hall

Q: Where can I learn more about the space?
A: You can learn about our historic location and recent renovation project here.

Q: Where is the entrance to the theatre?
A: The main atrium entrance is on the east side of the building (side closest to Broadway).  This is where the Box Office is located.  The concession area, restrooms and Community Room are also located immediately inside the building.  There will be no entry through the front doors of the original church building. These doors will primarily be utilized as exits.

Q: What are my options for parking?
A: Please see our detailed parking page for information.

Q: What is a theatre in the round?
A: The Great Hall is primarily used as a theatre in the round, where the audience seating is on four sides of the stage and the artists perform to all sides.  Some performances will be sold with seating only on three sides of the stage, which is called thrust seating and will be indicated on the seating map.

Q: What is the capacity of the Great Hall?
A: There are 679 seats, depending on the event.

Q: When should I arrive for my performance?
A: When planning your visit to UPH, we recommend you leave ample time to park, pick up your tickets, and pick up concessions. The audience seating will open approximately half an hour before “curtain”, when the event is scheduled to start.  Please arrive no later than 15-20 minutes before your scheduled performance.

Accessibility

Q: Where is the special needs seating?
A: There are seven fully accessible seating locations within the theatre. Five are on the main floor: center, left and apse. Two are up in the balcony center.  Please note that the Great Hall is on the second and third floors and patrons can access this seating by utilizing the elevator next to the restrooms.

Q: Where are the hearing assistance options in the new theatre?
A: The theatre will have a state-of-the-art T-Coil Hearing Loop that can be accessed throughout the auditorium.  This system works with many modern hearing aids.  The Box Office will be able to provide patrons hearing assisted devices upon request.
